Blacksmithing is one of the 11 primary professions which can be chosen in WoW. The first thing you need as a Blacksmith is a Blacksmith Hammer which you can buy for just a few copper in almost every city. You will have a Blacksmith trainer that will allow you to make Blacksmithing one of your professions and you will also be able to learn new Blacksmithing plans which will allow you to make new and better items as you level it up. As a Blacksmith you will need loads of ore which can be mined from the veins that are scattered all across Azeroth and Outland. There are several ways to obtain these ores and the best way is by taking Mining as your second profession so you can gather the ores yourself because the ores are really pricy on the Auction House.
When it comes to leveling up Blacksmithing you can basically say that it is quite easy if you have Mining as a second profession. You will be able to make great items with Blacksmithing. As you level it up to skill 150-200 you will mainly be making Mail Armor and Weapons of all kind. As you level it up higher you will start making Plate Armor while still learning new weapons as well. Since Plate Armor and melee Weaponry are very important for Paladins, Warriors and Death Knights, you can say that Blacksmithing and Mining would suit these classes best. No matter which decision you make you will still learn quite an amount of both Armor and Weaponry Blacksmith plans. You will however gain access to patterns that allow you to craft rare items. Do know that you will be able to make most of the really good stuff that Blacksmithing has to offer at later levels can be made no matter which path you choose.
Once you have managed to skill up your Blacksmithing you can learn to produce quite an amount of valuable and much wanted items. The items you can make can be either worn by the Blacksmith or can be placed on the Auction House to earn some gold. There are a lot of epic items you can make as Blacksmith and creating Belt Buckles is also very nice. These are used by almost every level 80 player so there is a business for these. Once used, you will see that you receive a socket on the belt which allows players to place a gem in their belt which makes the item better.
As a Blacksmith you have the advantage of being able to create Socket Gloves and Socket Bracer. You can apply these two on your gloves and bracers to create a socket in your Bracers or Gloves which will also allow you to place a gem in them. It must be said that the last two mentioned abilities of a Blacksmith are designed to serve the Blacksmith alone and even though this mean that you can’t trade or sell these, you will definitely have something other players that do not have the Blacksmithing profession don’t have.
Blacksmithing can make your leveling easier and more fun. If you choose to make Mining your second profession Blacksmithing is quite easy and cheap to level though you can make nice amounts of money out of money out of it at later levels.
